‘Alias’: must-CIA TV: Jennifer Garner kicks butt in season opener
Wednesday, January 5th, 2005It’s fitting that the fourth season of ABC’s “Alias” begins with CIA agent hero Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) seducing a man on a train.
The series is back on the right track, and creator J.J. Abrams clearly wants to lure back viewers who were put off by last season’s increasingly convoluted machinations.
Abrams isn’t afraid to put into words how a lot of “Alias” fans felt about the third season of the spy drama.
“Last year sucked,” says agent Michael Vaughn (Michael Vartan) early on in tonight’s two-hour kick-butt season premiere at 9 on WCVB (Ch. 5).
Vaughn is ostensibly talking about his recent monthlong psychiatric evaluation, required after the tortured path he and fellow CIA agent Sydney were forced to tread last season in their supercharged world of global espionage. But dedicated viewers can read between the lines.

Jennifer Garner is a Real Superhero!
Wednesday, January 5th, 2005In True Superhero Fashion, ELEKTRA Star Braves Injury to Attend Film’s Premiere and “Elektra-fy” Las Vegas This Saturday
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 5, 2005–You can’t keep a good superhero down, as Jennifer Garner proved today, announcing that despite a painful injury that has sidelined her for over a week, she will attend this Sunday’s (1/9) gala Las Vegas premiere of ELEKTRA.
In ELEKTRA, the first action event film of the year, Garner stars in the title role as a strong, mysterious and sexy action heroine. But her on-screen abilities pale next to the real-life challenges she has overcome to commit to the event. Garner initially was thought to be suffering from a viral infection, but doctors today concluded that the Golden Globe(R) Award-winning actress has nerve damage resulting from a stunt she performed recently.
For the past two weeks, Garner has had to cancel extensive publicity activities on behalf of both ELEKTRA and the “Alias” season premiere, including a hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live” and the film’s press junket.
But Garner insisted that the “show must go on” for the Las Vegas event, which will see the Palms Casino and Hotel “Elektra-fied” with a 30-foot, pyrotechnically-enhanced billboard (in Elektra’s signature red) and even special ELEKTRA red gambling chips and blackjack table felt in the Casino.
Garner will be joined on the Palms’ red carpet by ELEKTRA fellow cast members Goran Visnjic, Will Yun Lee, Natassia Malthe, Kirsten Prout, Bob Sapp, Chris Ackerman and Colin Cunningham, plus Director Rob Bowman and Producer (and Marvel chief) Avi Arad. Other attendees include Ben Affleck, Michael Clarke Duncan, Jennie Garth, James King, “Desperate Housewives’” Jesse Metcalfe, Peter Facinelli, Jeremy Piven, Judy Greer and many others.
ELEKTRA, from Twentieth Century Fox and Regency Enterprises, opens nationwide January 14th.

Jennifer Garner Suffering From Viral Infection, Could Miss ‘Elektra’ Premiere
Wednesday, January 5th, 2005Actress has been forced to cancel all public appearances for the week.
Jennifer Garner is suffering from a viral infection, which may force her to miss the premiere of her new film, “Elektra.”
The actress, 32, is “very sick,” her publicist Nicole King told USA Today on Monday, but has not been hospitalized.
“She’s taking it day by day,” King said, adding that Garner was expected to see a doctor on Monday.
The actress has been forced to cancel all public appearances for the week and will have to reschedule promotion for “Elektra,” the comic-book adaptation in which she plays a hired assassin. King said she is not sure yet whether Garner will be able to attend the Las Vegas premiere of “Elektra,” which is scheduled for Saturday.
Garner is reportedly recovering at her Los Angeles home.

Jennifer Garner, from nerdy to cool
Saturday, September 18th, 2004LOS ANGELES, California, United States of America — “If you told me when I was 13 that I would be walking the red carpet when I turned 30, I would have told you, ‘No way! That would be totally so cool!’” exclaims Jennifer Garner.
A self-proclaimed geek when she was in junior high, Garner, now 32, describes her teenage years as “the most awkward, uncomfortable years of my life.”
She tells us as we interview her at the L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills, “I wore big dorky glasses, was tall and reed-like (she is 5-foot-8 tall) and gangly looking. In the high school yearbook where they choose the prettiest and the most likely to succeed, I didn’t get voted anywhere at all!”
